MUSTARD SEED THOUGHTS #16

Light is a strong and powerful element. Just a small light can dispel darkness in a large room. Light has been equated as (1) DAY – we often consider it daytime when light is mentioned. It speaks of something new instead of the old. It also spells hope and something we can look forward to. Darkness speaks of the night and it is full of uncertainties and mysteries. (2) DIRECTION – light travels in straight lines. It directs with certainties. It points direction for those who are lost and finding their way or, for those who have deviated from their original destination. (3) DELIGHT – It is usually in the brightness of things that people are relaxed and they celebrate. There is no dark shadow. It speaks of confidence and comfort. (4) DISCOVERY – When we say ‘ we have seen the light’, it means we have discovered something. There is understanding instead of doubt and ignorance. It is the opposite of the lack of knowledge. (5) DRIVE – Light always conquers darkness. It is superior to darkness. In the light, we are victors instead of being victims. Light prevails, conquers, overcomes, illuminates..

In John Ch1, the author says that ‘ the Light has come into the world’. (1:9) We imagine the light invading a darkened world of sin and failure. This light shone into the darkness. It was to dispel the darkness and to give life to a world which was living in darkness. John the Baptist then entered the scene and he testified about this light-Jesus!

In many incidences, believers choose to walk and live in darkness. Stories of being attacked spiritually or learning to war with the darkness seem to be the favorite topics at Christian seminars and conferences. While we do not discount the reality and presence of evil spirits, we should not dwell and give them prominence in our lives. At times we may be ‘attacked’ but other times, it could have been our own mistakes, foolishness, failures, follies or even sin.

Jesus came as ‘The Light of the World’. We who live in Him are found in the light. We abide in the light. We live in the light. We walk in the light. In Him, there is no darkness. Why should we focus on and be so conscious of darkness? Light is many times more superior than darkness. What we choose to align ourselves to become the cause and consequence of our lives and living. For instance, Mother Teresa once said that she would never march in a demonstration against injustice. Instead she would march to promote peace and love. Her choice was to choose the good (light) cause instead of the bad (darkness) cause. We should also choose to dwell in the light instead of darkness: positive instead of negative; good instead of bad; friendliness instead of animosity…that will change us and our situation.

In conclusion, we are urged to (1) RECEIVE the light. Let the light of Christ shine into our lives. Do not allow darkness to rule us in our thoughts and attitudes (2) WALK in the light. 1 John 1:5-7. Do good deeds. Live in the light and become children of the light (3) BECOME the light. Let your light shine before men that they may see our good works. John 5:16 .Let us live our lives as a testimonies to draw others to Him. “ We are the light of the world…a city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.,” John 5:14
